Parathought logo design case study · EdTech

Infinite Thinking.
One Loop.

Built to make young minds think one step further

How we gave Parathought, a startup teaching critical thinking to young learners, a mark that says depth and curiosity before a single word is read.

Project

New brand identity

The brief

Make thinking feel like an adventure, not homework.

Parathought teaches critical thinking to young minds. It speaks to two people at once: parents who want depth and rigour, and students who want something that feels fresh. The education space is full of owls, pencils and lightbulbs. Parathought needed a mark with real depth that still feels young.

The Challenge

  • A category crowded with owls, books and lightbulbs
  • Two audiences: parents who want trust, students who want energy
  • “Thinking” is abstract, and hard to draw without clichés

What Success Looked Like

  • Says “endless curiosity” without a single word
  • Feels smart to parents and modern to students
  • Reads clearly at favicon and app-icon size
  • Owns a calm, confident blue

Why it matters

Simple to Look at. Hard to Get Right.

An education brand has to earn a parent’s trust and a student’s attention in the same glance. Its logo has to stay sharp as a tiny favicon, print cleanly on a certificate in one colour, and still feel right when today’s students are tomorrow’s parents. Drawing a symbol is easy. Designing one that does all of that is a craft.

First Impression

All the time a parent gives a new learning brand to decide if it feels credible.

Still Yours

On certificates, worksheets and one-colour print.

10+yrs

Still Relevant

Designed to grow with the brand, not chase trends.

That’s why Parathought’s mark was explored, tested and refined in rounds, not drawn in an afternoon.

See how we did it

From brief to brand

One Idea. Many Loops. One Mark.

01Strategy

Discover

We sat with the founders to define Parathought’s promise: teaching young people how to think, not what to think. Four words became our filter for every idea: curious, clear, deep and trusted.

02Strategy

Research

We reviewed edtech and learning brands. Most leaned on owls, books, caps and lightbulbs: friendly, but forgettable. The open space was an abstract, grown-up symbol that still feels young.

03Design

Sketch

Pencil explorations around loops, paths, mazes, minds and connected nodes, all chasing one idea: a thought that keeps on going.

04Design

Explore

Digital directions tested side by side at favicon and app-icon size from day one. The Möbius strip, a loop with no end, told the clearest story and held up when small.

05Craft

Refine

We tuned the twist, the 3D shading and the blue tones until the strip read cleanly, then balanced it with a bold, dual-tone wordmark. Small adjustments made the mark feel confident instead of busy.

06Handover

Deliver

Master logo, symbol and wordmark versions, colour and type system, and organised files for web, social, print and classroom material, ready for any designer or developer.

Behind the scenes

The Ones That Didn’t Make It

Good ideas get cut too. Here’s what we set aside, and why.

Rejected Parathought logo idea: The Lightbulb

The Lightbulb

Instantly understood, but the most overused symbol in education.

Rejected Parathought logo idea: The Brain

The Brain

Clever, but too clinical and literal for young learners.

Rejected Parathought logo idea: The Open Book

The Open Book

Trustworthy, but it said “reading”, not “thinking”.

Every detail has a job

Every Curve Carries Meaning

1

The Möbius Strip

A loop with one continuous surface. It stands for thinking that never stops and ideas that flow into each other.

2

The 3D Twist

Depth and shading make the mark feel dimensional, a nod to looking at every problem from more than one side.

Parathought logo anatomy: The Möbius Strip, The 3D Twist, Shades of Blue, Dual-Tone Wordmark

3

Shades of Blue

Blue signals intelligence, calm and trust for parents. Lighter tones keep it fresh for young learners.

4

Dual-Tone Wordmark

A bold typeface split into two tones, so “Para” and “thought” read cleanly and confidently at a glance.

Construction & rules

Built on Rules, Not Guesswork.

Clear rules keep the identity consistent, whether it is used by a teacher making a worksheet, a printer, a developer or a new agency.

Construction Grid

The strip sits on a balanced ellipse and a centred axis, so the twist looks even at every size.

Clear Space

Keep a margin of x (the height of the “P”) on every side. Nothing enters this zone.

Minimum Size

24px on screen and 15mm in print. Below that, use the symbol on its own.

Stress tests

Tested in the Real World Before Launch.

A logo that only works on a big white screen isn’t finished. We put Parathought through the places it actually lives before the client ever did.
